Driven by a deep-rooted passion for serving others, Dr. Thompson amassed valuable experience in leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, Maryland State Retirement and Pension System, the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Majority Whip, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in New York.

Throughout his career, Dr. Thompson contributed to the stability of the nation's banking system on Wall Street, championed policies that elevated wages and created economic opportunities on Main Street, and collaborated closely with local, state, and federal officials on Capitol Hill. In the classroom, his dedication translated into improved test scores, narrowed academic achievement gaps, and more students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Dr. Thompson earned a masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and a doctoral degree from Virginia State University. He was inspired to attend Virginia State University by Reginald F. Lewis, the trailblazing entrepreneur who was the first African American to build a billion-dollar business and graduated from the same institution in 1965. Mr. Lewis and Dr. Thompson share a birthday -- December 7th -- and membership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, highlights of a shared commitment to achievement and excellence.
